Transporter T4 transformation

Our latest project – a Volkswagen T4

Like everyone in lockdown, we were on the lookout for a project to get stuck into and so we took the plunge and bought this beautiful 1992 VW T4! She’s a K-reg with 162,000 miles on the clock and in quite good condition already, but there were a few bits of maintenance and tidying up to do plus a few modifications that we wanted to make.

The bodywork used to be red, but it was resprayed with a Ford Orchid Green and the previous owner left the roof white. The paintwork wasn’t too bad, apart from a key scratch down the side that needed touching up. It also needed a new VW badge fitting.

Whilst we made the switch to T5s a little while ago, I always loved how the T4s drive. It was a bit of a surprise to find out that this one had a Golf TDI engine inside - which meant it an even smoother drive!

Another quirky thing - someone added four sunroofs to this T4, so the top was coming away a bit (you’ll see what we mean in the video below) … To tidy it up, we stuck that back up and re-carpeted the whole interior.

To make her look even more swish - we added some clear lights to the front and some chrome covers for the wing mirrors, to match the other detailing. We also got her lowered with some 55mm springs…

And of course - to complete the transformation - we kitted it out with some new Jackyards seat covers!

Once the inside was all cleaned out, we fitted her with a Lime Green and Off-White set. These not only match the paintwork, but the colours will look pretty spectacular with all that sun beaming in!

Here’s a video to give you a quick peek at what the van looked like before:

And here’s her after her makeover! As you can expect, she sold straight away and she’s gone to live with a lovely family with two kids, who can’t wait to sleep in the back…
