With van production back in full swing and campsites reopening left, right and centre, the demand for VW camper vans has never been higher! So, if you’re one of the lucky lot that’s managed to get your hands on one, it’s absolutely vital that you protect your investment.
Why VW vans in particular?
Volkswagen vans in good condition retain their value a lot more than other camper van brands. VW have been consistently popular since the 1950’s and this definitely won’t change any time soon, due to them being such a well-established brand.
Some models hold their value better than others, such as the classic VW T2s (aka ‘Buses’), T5s and our much-loved Californias. With regular TLC, Calis in particular have very low depreciation. They’ve been known to sell for up to 75% of their original value - even after three years!
Whether you plan on selling yours on or keeping it for good, here are our top tips to protect your investment and keep your VW van’s value…
Don’t overload
Research by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles themselves back in 2015 found that nearly 50% of drivers overload their vans! Not only is this a big safety risk, but it will increase your running costs dramatically and could lead to breakdowns.
Protect your paintwork
It sounds obvious but a dirty, damaged or rusty van will not be worth as much as a brand new one. Make sure your van is cleaned regularly to avoid any damage and get it resprayed or repanelled as and when you need to.
Time for a service!
The best way to make sure your VW van keeps running smoothly is to get regular services from a genuine Volkswagen garage or retailer like Breeze Van Centres. As VW experts, they’ll make sure that you’re getting the best price for any parts or work that needs doing.
Save your seats
It’s no good making sure that everything on your van is in tip-top shape if the seats are stained! Protect your seats with a set of Jackyards seat covers and they’ll stay good as new. They’re made from canvas acrylic which means they’re completely waterproof and if they get mucky, you can just pop them in the washing machine on a normal 40-degree wash!
